Word Study box
Word Study Box Context: I created this box in Beth Frye’s reading class at Appalachian State University during the fall of 2002. It is a box that includes pictures and words. The pictures are separated by categories such as beginning consonants, vowel patterns, etc. The words are also separated and include categories such as word families, short and long vowel patterns, etc. Impact: The Word Study Box will help me teach because I can set up picture
sorts or word sorts for children depending upon their levels of reading.
This box is a great resource to have to work with children and the children
love it as well. It is a great thing to have for younger grades as well
as lower readers.
Alignment: The box meets competency V C because I am using technology
to increase productivity and to make my job easier. It also aligns to INTASC
principal 1 because it shows how I can use tools to make meaningful learning
experiences for students. It also aligns with principal 2 because it shows
how I understand how children learn and need different strategies for success
and can create these opportunities for each individual child.
