Artifact 1 Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum and Document on the 8th Grade Computer Skills Test

Competency 10.1:  “Use the computer skills curriculum to identify what students should be able to do.”

Competency 10.5:  “The NC Skills Assessment: Utilize available released items (knowledge and performance) as assessment for computer skills for your appropriate grade level/subject”

Context

This artifact is a print out of the NC computer technology skills from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.  It can be found at www.dpi.state.nc.us.  I clicked on the Curriculum link at the top left of the page, then clicked on Computer/Technology skills and read and printed out the competencies for K-6.  The next is a document on the 8th Grade Computer Technology Skills which I accessed from the Internet at www.ncpublicschools.org

Impact

I will be licensed to teach grades K-6 in North Carolina and I will incorporate these computer skills into my classroom.  I am now aware that there are six strands in computer skills for all public school students in North Carolina.
STRANDS: SI= Societal Issues; KU/WP/DTP = Keyboard Utilization/Word Processing/Desk Top Publishing; DB = Database; SS = Spreadsheet; T = Telecommunications; M/P = Multimedia/Presentation
I will be able to prepare students for the 8th Grade Computer Technology Skills test.

Alignment

The print out of the North Carolina Computer Skills aligns with competency 10.1.  As a future NC public school teacher, I now know and will incorporate these skills into my classroom.  The printout on the 8th grade testing aligns with competency 10.5.  As we discussed in class, I now realize that every student will be required to take this test in 8th grade and must continue taking it until they pass or they will not graduate.  I will prepare my students for this to the best of my abilities.
