Artifact 10:  List of Television Resources

Competency 10.2:  “Use school television resources that support the curriculum.”

Context

I watched a Channel 1 video segment in class.  Channel 1 is a source for teachers and schools to use television in their classrooms for educational resources and is geared towards high school students.  The segment we watched was about flooding in Africa and how it affected the country.  It also addressed issues about stress and the affects it had on students.  Channel 1’s website is www.teachworld.com.  I searched the internet using www.google.com for television resources that could be used in classrooms and explored 5 websites.  I used Microsoft Word to make a list of the websites and their information.  The sources I found meet the NC Standard Course of Study K-12 Technology Competency Goal #3.  This goal states, “The learner will use a variety of technologies to access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply, and communicate information.”  Students will be using these television resources in the classroom to help understand technology resources available for them.  The programs will permit students to view the program and analyze, interpret, synthesize and communicate what they found important from the television program.

Impact

The list of school television resources is useful for me as a future teacher because I will be using television resources in my classroom.  By having a list of five quality television resources I will be able to show my students valuable programs allowing them to learn successfully.

Alignment

Listing the television resources meets competency goal 10.2 because it aligns with competency goal 3 in the school curriculum.  Students are learning from television programs and will be using what they saw to communicate to others.  I now know how to find television resources to help support my curriculum.
