Competency 11.1: Use technology in the discipline/subject for learning and as a medium for communications.
Competency 11.2: Use media and technology to present the subject so that it is comprehensible to others.
Competency 12.1: Develop performance tasks that require students to (a) locate and analyze information as well as draw conclusions and (b) use a variety of media to communicate results clearly.
Context
In a group I created a website.
My future students can refer to this website and complete the assignments
on their own. We looked at an example project already on the internet
and selected an item to re-invent. As a group we decided on the item's
new name and purpose. We took pictures of the group using this new
object with a digital camera. We then created our own web page, using
Netscape Composer, to describe our product, its uses, and a lesson for
the students to follow. I imported pictures from the digital camera
and used clip art to design my page. This web page includes an example
page for the students to refer to, a student page with instructions, and
a teacher page for teachers to learn about the project. As a group
we then presented our product to the class and introduced our individual
web pages.
Impact
After completing this project
and placing the information on the internet I am now familiar with Netscape
Composer, a wonderful program used to design internet web pages.
By placing this on the internet I am making it accessible to other teachers
and to myself for futre reference. I can now use Netscape Composer
to create my own web pages.
Alignment
Competency 11.1 was met because
I have designed and delivered a classroom activity using telecommunications
as well as used technology to introduce and reinforce content topics.
I also met competency 11.2 by presenting curriculum information to students
using various technologies. I met competency 11.4 because I used
computers to have the students work cooperatively in groups. Competency
12.1 has been met because I delivered an electronic presentation to my
class. I can now use these resources in my future classroom.
This artifact meets five INTASC principles. Principle 1 was met because I created a learning experience for my future students that makes the subject matter meaningful to students. Principle 4 was met by using a variety of instructional strategies to encourage student's decelopment of critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills. Principle 5 was met by understanding individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction. Because I used nonverbal, media techniques to foster active inquiry I have met INTASC principle 6. Principle 8 was met because this artifact uses formal and informal assessment to evalute social, intellectual, and physical development of the learner.
