  • Computer Software Teaching

  • Description:  This was an educational teaching experience that we participated in with our portrait students.  We used educational pieces of software that teachers could also use in their classrooms with their children (10.4).  I chose a Dinosoft computer program that teaches Phonics for my portrait child who is in kindergarden.  Of course, when choosing a piece of software you must make sure it is on grade level in order for the testing or teaching to make sense or to get proper results.  I would use this piece of software with my classroom children because it helps a child with their phonics, how letters sound, and how they are placed where they are (11.3)
  • The student will use a computer game to learn phonics, beginning and ending sounds of words.  With this computer software I could help children learn to read and learn their phonics (10.5).  This could test the reading level that the child is on.
With this learning activity between the student and myself, I will, in simple terms, explain to him what citing resources and copyright issues are and what they mean.  I can help a child to become more aware of what the issues are that are related to technology use (14.3).  The child, after doing this educational piece of software will be able turn a computer on and off and will know the basic skills of how to run a computer (10.1).
  • In order to fulfill this teaching, a number of issues are touched on before beginning the activity.  This child had attended a technology class once a week.  I used this computer software to review basic computer skills with the student (10.1).
  • Assessment: During this teaching, this child had shown me the proper use of a computer and where to find letters, numbers, and certain special keys on the key board.  He also knew how to use the mouse properly (10.5).
