Artifact 11

During my senior year at Appalachian, I began to talk about the different ways that a classroom is setup. I began to think of how I would like to set my classroom up. I knew that I had to have a classroom setup that would cater to the way I wanted to run my class. I began looking at how different classrooms were arranged and began to layout how I would like my classroom to be laid out.

In creating the layout of my classroom, I began to think of what I needed to have in the classroom. I want to work with the younger kids so I knew that I would have to have places for centers, groups, and individual spaces. As a future teacher, I had to think about the different issues that will arise in my class and I will need to be able to use the space that is provided efficiently.

In a classroom setup, there is a lot that needs to be examined. A teacher had to provide equal opportunities for all their students. In my classroom setup, I am doing this by providing centers that students can rotate into. Creating an equal opportunity for students in the computer centers fulfills Competency 14.2. Having a computer center in my classroom also fulfills Competency 12.4. This center allows students to use technology and provides that opportunity for them to do so. The computer will allow the students to work together on projects such as writing stories, doing graphs, and researching topics on the internet.
