Software Evaluation
In my internship my senior year, I had to do a software evaluation that I would create a lesson for and teach it to my portrait student. I was working in a kindergarten room and needed to do the evaluation and a program they would be able to use. I decided to use the program “Jump Start Kindergarten”. I chose the program because many of the kids in the class enjoyed the program and fought over who was going to use it. The lesson that I created would help the student use the program efficiently.
Looking at this piece of software, I will be able to use it as a learning tool in my classroom.  I can take different parts of this software and use it as a center. I could have the students complete a specific task on the program. Evaluating this software also allows me to experiment with the different resources that are available to the students in kindergarten.
Jump Start Kindergarten is a program that deals with a specific content area, such as numbers, colors, and shapes. These specific areas in the software program fulfill Competency 11.3. One part of the program has items that can be sped up to go faster or can be slowed down depending on the student’s ability. The different learning styles of children can be adjusted in the program for the student, this fulfills Competency 13.1. On this program I looked to see if this program was bilingual. This program, being bilingual, fulfills Competency 13.3
