Artifact #13
Database of Software Evaluation

Context:

This artifact was produced using Microsoft Database found within Microsoft Works.  As a class, we split up into groups and viewed six different educational software programs in our small groups.  We recorded the following: title, publisher, subject covered, appropriate age levels, description, objective, strengths, weaknesses, rating, recommendations, and reviewers.  From this information we entered it into a database.  This allows us to sort (i.e. by "title") or filter (i.e. by "math").  This allowed us to view the programs in alphabetical order or those that dealt with math.

Impact:

With the knowledge of how to make a database and the options within the program, such as sort and filter, I feel that I can incorporate this into my classroom.  I can make a database of my students and their personal information, of educational software available in my school, of programs available for my students, etc.  I feel competent to use this program and look forward to having access to it while I am teaching.

Alignment:

This artifact aligns with Competency 10.6, Competency 12.1, and Competency 13.1.  This database is built for teachers to locate, evaluate and select appropriate resources to enhance their lessons, and for students to use to analyze information and to use technology in a way to address their learning and performance levels.  I look forward to having the opportunity to use this program in my future classroom.
