Designing an Accessible Computer Lab

Context:

This artifact is a word-processed list of items that are needed to have an accessible computer lab.  My classmates and I produced this list together.

Impact:

With the knowledge of items that are a necessity in a computer lab, I feel that I could "furnish" a computer lab by our standards that will meet the needs of all the children in my elementary classroom.  The items on the list allow the lab to be accessible to children that are disabled as well as those who are not.  We have included Braille and large keyboards, along with headphones, and wide aisle and tables for wheelchairs.  We also took into account the large amount of waste paper and included a recycling bin.  With this awareness of what a computer lab should encompass, I can now create my own.

Alignment:

This list of features for an accessible computer lab aligns with Competency 12.4.  With these guidelines, the physical settings support active student involvement and collaboration for all students.  Included as well is an idea of how the computer lab should be arranged to enhance cooperative learning and allow students to collaborate with each other.
