literature database

Context:
This database was completed in the Language Arts methods class in the Fall of 2002.  I read twenty children's books from a wide variety of genres including realistic fiction, poetry, and multicultural. The reviews were then submitted to a database that can be accessed via the web.

Impact:
The literature database is an excellent resource for teachers. It includes complete information on the book, suggestions and ideas for classroom use, etc. This database can be searched according to genre, authors, reviewers, etc. It includes all reading levels and genres for a wide variety of literature in the classroom.

Alignment:
The literature database meets the following Technology Competencies. By working on the literature database, I have accessed resources for planning instruction through via the web (10.3).  I used computers effectively to communicate information to others (12.3). I have also used technology to address the variety of learning and performance skills in children (13.1) as well as supporting children with special needs (13.2) and whose primary language is not English (13.3).

The INTASC Principle 2 was met through the database by understanding how a child learns and develops, providing learning opportunities that support this variety of development.
