Textbook Evaluation

 Context

I completed a textbook evaluation in my Teaching of Social Studies class in the Fall of 2002.  This project was an evaluation of two social studies textbooks.  This evaluation compared the two textbooks and required us to choose whether or not we would prefer to use the textbook in our own classroom.  The textbooks had to be recent and both books had to be written for the same grade.

Impact

The textbook evaluation was very helpful because as teachers we may be asked to be on a textbook adoption committee in our own schools.  This project helped me to learn what I should look for in a textbook and how I should go about choosing one for my classroom.  This has also been helpful for me during my internship because my teacher is on our schools book adoption committee and they are in the process of adopting a new social studies textbook.

Alignment

This project aligns with competency II-C because this document shows how I evaluate and choose an educational resource such as a textbook.
