Video Production

Context:

This project involved choosing a children's book that we had read in our Children's Literature class and evolve it into a movie.  This movie was scripted, planned out and filmed with people from our class.  My group decided to mimic a book called Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  After filming the video using a video camera we edited with a program called IMovie.

Impact:

The Impact of this movie would be wonderful for children.  It helps them learn how a movie is really filmed.  As a student I learned how to use a camera, connect it to a computer using fire wire, to edit the scenes using IMovie, and also how to transfer the finished video to a VHS tape using video equipment.  There is no end to what students can learn participating in this project!

Alignment

This activity corresponds with competency III-B because it shows that I can use technology in a learning centered environment.  In this project we made videos from story books that we had read in our literature class.  This project was a fun way to review what a class has read and it also teaches students to write their own script, use a video camera, and to edit video using a computer.  This project also aligns with competency III-D because it shows that I can manage students while doing a learning activity in technology.  As a teacher I would give different jobs to each person in a video group to help them learn different parts of video producing.  One kid could work mainly on the script while another student might want to mainly film the production.  Each student would have different roles that suited their learning styles.
