Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum AND Document on the 8th Grade Computer Skills Test

Context:

This artifact includes a printout of the NC computer technology skills obtained from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction website at www.dpi.state.nc.us.  To obtain this printout I clicked on curriculum, read the competencies for Kindergarten through Sixth grade and then printed them out.  The artifact also includes a document on the 8th Grade Computer Technology Skills obtained from the North Carolina Public Schools website at www.ncpublicschools.org.  This printout includes information on the computer skills test given to all 8th graders.

Impact:

I will be licensed to teach grades Kindergarten through Sixth in North Carolina and I will incorporate these computer skills into my classroom.  I am now aware that there are six strands in computer skills for all public school students in North Carolina.  These strands include: Societal Issues, Keyboard Utilization/Word Processing/Desk Top Publishing, Database, Spreadsheet, Telecommunications, and Multimedia/Presentation.

Alignment:

As a future North Carolina public school teacher I know that I will incorporate the skills found in the printout of the NC Computer Skills.  This printout aligns with competency 10.1.  The printout on the 8th grade testing aligns with competency 10.5.  Now that I am aware of the 8th grade computer skills test and have discussed it in my Classroom Use of Microcomputers class, I will be fully prepared to help my students become competent in computer use.
