List of Television Resources
Context: This artifact includes information about television resources that can be used in schools today. I searched the Internet and found information on five useful television resources for the classroom. These resources are: the Public Broadcasting Service, the Discovery Channel, the Biography Channel, Channel One, and Cable in the Classroom. The Public Broadcasting Service is a private non-profit media enterprise owned and operated by our nation's 349 public television stations. PBS services the public with non-commercial quality and educational programs. This site provides a list of all the programs for both young and old. The Discovery Channel first went on the air in 1985 and is the leading global real world media and entertainment company. It offers diverse programs on culturally diverse topics. The Biography Channel offers biographical information programs on a great number of famous and important people from the past and present. Channel One is a daily, televised, ten minute newscast beamed via satellite during the school year to 12,000 schools. It brings young people together from around the globe to learn about and discuss everything that's on their minds. It's first broadcast was in 1990 and since then it has covered all sorts of issues that affect children and adolescents. Cable in the Classroom represents the cable telecommunications industry's efforts to use cable content and new technologies to improve teaching and learning for children. It works for a positive change in the educational system both locally and nationally. As a class we viewed a Channel One segment that gave us a clear view of what it is all about. Through these activities I have met the NC Standard Course of Study K-12 Technology Competency Goal #3. Impact: As a future classroom teacher I will be looking for new and innovative ways to teach my students. I will be searching for outside resources and technology to complement my teachings. I hope to provide interactive discussions for my students to provide for effective learning to take place. Television programs such as the five listed above will help in accomplishing these goals for my classroom. Alignment: I have met competency 10.2 by finding and researching school television resources that will support the curriculum. |
