Artifact # 9 |
Websites for Students
Whose Primary Language is not English
Context: This artifact includes three printouts from the Internet, using Internet Explorer. The first two printouts are from the website: www.freetranslation.com. This website includes service for text translation and website translation. The two printouts are examples of these services. The third printout is from the website: www.englishlearner.com. This website provides a variety of resources for teachers including interactive tests, quizzes, and exercises for improving skills in writing, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, reading, and more. It also offers free English lessons by email. Impact: As a future classroom teacher I expect to have students whose primary language is not English. Resources such as the websites above will be a great aid for teaching these students. These websites will be useful in designing lessons and evaluations tools for these students. I would also encourage my ESL students to explore these and other related websites for help. When I, for example, send out a newsletter to the parents of my class I will be able to translate the text fairly simply by entering it into the text translator at www.freetranlation.com. Students whose primary is English would also benefit from these websites, learning translation and communication skills to better interact with their peers. Alignment: I have met competency 13.3 by exploring
and collecting resources from the Internet that support the teaching and
learning involved with children whose primary language is not English.
