Competencies 10.5 The NC Computer Skills Assessment

INTASC Principle 6 :  The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.

Context
I created this web page activity in spring of 2002 for my Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching class.  It was done individually and the class was asked to invent something new out of an object that is of everyday use.  I used Adobe Photoshop to edit the pictures and Netscape Composer to create the web pages.

Impact
This page was created including teacher and student instructions as well as an example. You can access this through the web, which allows anyone looking for an activity that integrates technology in the classroom will have access to it.  The activity is mainly for grades third through fifth.  This activity is important because students need to be able to foster their creative abilities and communicate via Internet.  Students should be given exposure to technology/Internet with out the negative aspects attached to it.  This not only facilitates a safe learning environment but it exposes them to a wide range of technology.

Alignment
This activity aligns with Competency Goal 10.5 and INTASC Principle 6 , because it evaluates student's ability to utilize technology according to the NC Standard Course of Study.  Also it models effective media communication and allows the students to create their own form of media along with communicating via email.  Students are expected to write fluently and clearly along with being grammatically correct.
