Context

I created this document with a small group during spring of 2002 during the Block.  We used Power Point along with a digital camera and the Internet for research.  We also accessed Adobe Photoshop to edit pictures and IMovie on a Mac to edit the short video shown during the presentation.

Impact
You never stop to think about how much the media affects you until you sit down and scrutinize the media focusing on the messages rather than the programs.  As a teacher this project was informative and eye opening to the values and images being exposed to our children even during regular viewing TV hours.  By knowing this I will better be able to meet the needs and have a better understanding of what I will be competing with at home.

Alignment
This aligns with Technology Competencies 11.2 , 11.3 , 11.4 , 12.2 , 12.6, and INTASC Principle 2 .  By having created this ethnography I not only am able to use media to present to others but I am better able use a larger variety of technology and integrate it into the curriculum.  I gained a better understanding of how to create a learning environment where the children will be able to make connections to what they already know, to what they are learning.  In addition I have learned the affects of the media on students and know that I need to create opportunities for students to reflect upon what they are actually receiving when watching TV.
