Rationale 1: Computer
Technology Skills Curriculum and Document on the 8th Grade Computer Skills
Test
Competency 10.1: “Use the Computer Skills Curriculum to identify what students should know and be able to do.” Competency 10.5: “The NC Computer Skills Assessment: Utilize available released items (knowledge and performance) as assessment for computer skills for your appropriate grade level/subject.” Context: The first part of this rationale is a printout of the NC computer technology skills. I obtained it from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s website www.dpi.state.nc.us/. I clicked on the curriculum once I reached the website and read and printed out the Elementary level competencies. The second part of this rationale is a document on the 8th Grade Computer Technology Skills that I found at www.ncpublicschools.org. Impact: I am going to be licensed to teach grades K-6 in North Carolina and I will incorporate these computer skills in my classroom. I am aware that there are six strands in computer skills for all public school students in North Carolina: Societal Issues, Keyboard Utilization/Word Processing/Desk Top Publishing, Database, Spreadsheet, Telecommunications, and Multimedia/Presentation. Alignment: The printout of the NC Computer Skills aligns with competency 10.1. As a future teacher in North Carolina, I know the computer skills that students should know and will incorporate experiences for students to learn these skills. The printout on the 8th grade testing aligns with 10.5. All North Carolina public school students are assessed in the 8th grade to ensure that basic computer skills are being learned. The computer skills taught in the elementary grades will serve as the foundation for success on this test.
