Competency 13.3: “Use media and technology to support learning for children whose primary language is not English.”

Context:  I used Internet explorer to go to the site www.freetranslation.com and used the text translator to translate a few of my own words into Spanish and I used the website translator to translate Crayola.com into Spanish.   I also went to the site www.englishlearner.com and explored the site and printed off a reading activity.

Impact: In North Carolina, there were over 44,000 students in 2000 who understood little or no English.  I will need to adapt my teaching to incorporate students’ whose primary language is not English.

Alignment:  The websites www.freetranslation.com and www.englishlearner.com align with competency 13.3.  They are excellent examples of technology that will make learning easier for the student whose primary language is not English.
