AskERIC Lesson Plan

Context
I used a search engine called “Google” at www.google.com to search for “AskERic Lesson Plans.”   That web address is http://www.askeric.org/Virtual/Lessons/.   On the AskERIC homepage, it lists various subjects to choose from.  I chose "Foreign Languages," “English as a Second Language,” and then the specific lesson plans were available.  This particular lesson plan is designed for six-year-olds who have been living in the United States for six months.

Impact
This lesson plan fulfills the First Grade English Language Arts Goal 5.05 in that its focus is on capitalization rules.  It also aligns with the Second Language emphasis on making connections to the First Grade curriculum.  By knowing how to access these lesson plans, I will be able improve my planning, in that, not only will I have access to my ideas but other teacher’s in my grade level as well.  This will be helpful, because I will be using lesson plans that have worked well for other teachers in the past, and will hopefully help me as well.

Alignment
This aligns with Competency 10.3 because I used the Internet to access a lesson plan that correlates with my subject area and the Standard Course of Study.  It aligns with Competency 13.4 because ERIC is a nationwide service/resource designed to help educators, librarians, and the general stay up-to-date on educational issues.  Quoted directly from the ERIC website, “ERIC is a nationwide system of Clearinghouses and support agencies designed to help educators, librarians, and the general public keep up to date on education-related issues.”
