Artifact # 6
Context
I created a web page to display an activity called "Modern Fashion
and Invention." It is an activity designed to enhance one's language
arts, computer, and information skills in a fun and creative manner.
The web site includes a Master Page, Example Page, Teacher Page, and Student
Page. The Master Page is an introduction to the activity. The
Example Page includes an example infomercial that I created for my imaginary
invention. The Teacher page has links to the Language Arts, Computer/Technology,
and Information Skills curriculums for grades 3-6, as well as the specific
objectives that an activity like this would meet. I also included
a link that I created with specific guidelines for Accessibility Options
for exceptional children as well as advice for including ESL students in
the project. There are also reminders for how to cite online sources
in case graphics, photos, or other online information is used in creating
the project.
Impact
By creating a web page, I learned many useful skills that will help
me when I have my own classroom. I plan to have a class web page
so
parents can see what is going on in our class. After doing this,
I now know how to create a web page of my own! Also, it is important
to include every child in activities, so by finding out the Accessibility
Options available on my computer, I will be better prepared to meet the
needs of my students. Also, I strongly believe that it is essential
to include ESL students in group interaction, and this is a great way to
do it. Group work is a wonderful opportunity to interact with peers
of the target language. Copyright laws are important to remember
when ever using other peoples' work to support your ideas. This activity
is a perfect time to introduce source citing and other Copyright regulations.
Alignment
This artifact aligns with many of the Advanced Technology Competencies.
It aligns with 11.1 because it is a web
page which is a technological means of communication. The web page
also meets 12.1 because it requires the
learner to access information and communicate using a variety of media.
It aligns with 12.7 because it is a learning
experience that is appropriate for curriculum goals, supports learner creativity
using media, and is designed around principles of effective teaching and
learning. It aligns with 13.2 because
it includes details about making the computer more accessible to students
with disabilities. The web page includes a sample computer sign-in
sheet, which aligns with 14.2, because
it is a strategy to ensure equal access to the computer. It aligns
with 14.1 and 14.3
because
it discusses rules for siting resources and the importance of giving credit
where credit is due.
Modern Fashion and Invention also aligns with INTASC Principle 4 because it facilitates critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
