Social Studies Textbook Review

B. Context
An analysis of of two 5th grade level textbooks to determine the usefulness of these texts by students and by the teacher.  It was done in the Spring of 2001 in my block so that I may use this skill later in my teaching career in order to assess Textbooks.

C. Impact
In doing this review and comparison, I answered many questions and did a readability graph for 5th graders.  This is a useful tool for me as a teacher as I will have to assess textbooks for my teaching career and my classroom.

D. Alignment
This Analysis of two Social Studies Textbooks allows for review by myself and other teachers and through the web as a resource for determining the strengths and weaknesses of the textbooks in question.  It will encompass these Competencies:

· 13.4 - This artifact shows that I can find the services necessary to help diverse learners because it looks at many areas of the textbook to see that it meets the many diverse needs of my classroom and that there are services on the web that I may refer to look at what other people have reviewed these textbooks.
