Software Evaluation

B. Context
I evaluated this particular piece of software in my class Elementary School Curriculum and Instruction.  The software I used was Math Blaster:  Mystery Pre-Algebra – The Great Train Robbery for fifth grade and up.  In the software students must complete a series of problems ranging from easy to hard to complete the game.  After reviewing this software I created an evaluation including, strengths and weakness, grade level, and content description.

C. Impact
I have evaluated this software and I know it would be a good way for students to practice Pre-Algebra on the computer.  Because of this I would use this software in my classroom and have students use this during computer time or math time.  Also, since evaluating this particular piece of software, I feel that I would be able to determine which software would be appropriate for my classroom.

D. Alignment
This assignment includes a detailed software evaluation and review of Math Blaster.
It includes a math specific software (Pre-Algebra) to review with students how to do Pre-Algebra based problems.  It will encompass these Competencies:

E.  Technology
· 10.6 - This artifact shows how I went about – or would go about – locating, evaluating and selecting a particular resource because this piece of software is grade-specific and would lend itself to looking up different resources on different search engines.
· 11.3 - This tool is specifically suited to the needs of a given subject area because it is specifically related to Pre-Algebra Math skills by allowing the student(s) to review the particular Math skills laid out by the teacher.
· 13.1 - This shows how I might use technology to meet the needs of children at different levels by the program itself because it has 5 different levels of difficulty depending on the student or group.  One can play this game on their instructional level.
