  Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum and Document on the 8th Grade Computer Skills Test

Competency 10.1:  “Use the computer skills curriculum to identify what students should be able to do.”

Competency 10.5:  “The N.C. Skills Assessment:  Utilize available released items (knowledge and performance) as assessment for computer skills for your appropriate grade level/subject.”

Context
This artifact was created in my Foundations 3100 Class, Classroom Use For Microcomputers.
The artifact is a printout of the N.C. computer technology skills.  To obtain this document, I went to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction web page, www.ncdpi.org, and clicked on curriculum and printed out the competencies.
Also, to obtain the document on the 8th Grade Computer Technology Skills, I went to the web site www.ncpublicschools.org and printed it out.

Impact

I am going to be licensed to teach grades K-6 in North Carolina and I will incorporate these computer skills into my classroom.  I am now aware that these 6 strands in computer skills for all public school students in NC; Societal Issues, Keyboard Utilization/Word Processing/Desk Top Publishing, Database, Spreadsheet, Telecommunications, Multimedia/Presentation.

Alignment

The Printout of the NC Computer Skills aligns with competency 10.1 – as a future NC public school teacher; I now know and will incorporate these skills, etc.

The printout on the 8th grade testing aligns with competency 10.5 – as a future NC public school teacher, I will be prepared to educate the student on what will be tested in the 8th grade.
