Technologies For Children With Special Needs Competency 13.2: Use media and technology to support learning for children with special needs. Context This artifact was created in my Foundations 3100 class, Classroom Use of Microcomputers. In class we went to the control panel on our computers and clicked on the “Accessibility Options” icon, then we clicked on the “Display” tab and turned on the high contrast so that people with visual problem would be able to see the screen better. We also went to the mouse settings and experimented with different mouse speeds and mouse pointer trails. Then I went to the web page, www.ldonline.org, and read the article “First Person” an article written by an LD student about advice on being an LD student. I also printed out some material from this site that I felt could help me as a future teacher. Then I went to the web page www.pat.org, this web site is for Partnerships in Assistive Technology, which is a site for disabled people who use assistive technology. Assitive technology is providing people who need physical help, any machinery that can help them such as wheelchairs. I also printed out some information off this page that I felt could help me as a future teacher. Impact These resources will allow me to better assist students with learning disabilities. Alignment Technologies For Children With Special Needs aligns with Competency
13.2 – I discussed and examined certain adaptive technologies for students,
as a future NC public school teacher; I now know how and where resources
are to help provide students with learning disabilities the best education.
