Ethnography Project Competency 11.2: “Use media and technology to present the subject so that it is comprehensible to others. Competency 11.4: “Use technology to facilitate teaching strategies specific to the discipline. Competency 12.2: "Use computers and other technologies effectively and appropriately to collect information on student learning using a variety of methods." Context This artifact was created during my Elementary Education Block 436. The group of Interns at Mable Elementary School completed this project by a process of collecting data and taking digital photographs and organizing them into a Power Point presentation. First each student collected their own individual information on what type of television shows that the children watched. After we collected the data, we decided to take the angle of what type of image did the student get of African Americans in the television shows they watch. After we decided on an angle to take we began to analyze our data and put it into a Power Point presentation. Impact As a licensed teacher in North Carolina, I will be aware of how the media affects the students within a school. It is my job to make sure that the students receive more information and perceptions than just what they get from the media. Alignment This artifact aligns with Competency 12.2 because I used a computer and other technologies such as a digital camera to collect data and create a presentation on how students learn. This artifact aligns with Competency 11.2, because we presented our presentation using a projector. We also used a digital camera in collecting data. The artifact also aligns with Competency 11.4 because I worked in a cooperative learning group and gathered information and presented it to the class. This artifact meets INTASC principle 2 because it teaches about how the media affects students. It gives the teacher a better understanding of how a child learns and develops through the media.
