Artifact 2
Desktop Publishing Newsletter
to Parents
Context
This artifact is a two page newsletter I have written to parents that
I may send at the beginning of the school year. I published this
newsletter by using desktop publishing (Microsoft Publishing). I
began by choosing what type of newsletter layout I wanted to use.
I then used clip art to give my newsletter some character. A classmate
and myself then used a digital camera to take pictures of ourselves to
put on our newsletter. I chose different subjects I thought parents
would want to know from me at the beginning of the school year. I
included Meet Ms.McCurdy, Come Prepared to Class, Classroom Guidelines
and Expectations, Upcoming Events, Everyone’s Involved, and Curriculum
and Instruction. I got the Curriculum and Instruction from the web
site, http://www.ncdpi.org. I
used this curriculum to give examples of what we, as a class, would be
exploring in the up coming school year as put forth by the state of North
Carolina.
Impact
I am going to be an elementary school teacher. It will be important
to keep my student's parent's involved on what's going on in the classroom.
A newsletter is a great way to make sure parents know what is going on,
as well as ask for any volunteers that may be needed. Using computers
and other technologies will enable my work to look professional as well
as give me a chance to be creative.
Alignment
This newsletter I have written to parents aligns with competency 12.3-as
a future North Carolina school teacher, I know that it is important to
use computers and other technologies to communicate information in a variety
of formats on student learning to colleagues, parents, and others.
Alignment with INTASC Standards
This newsletter aligns with INTASC
10 because it fosters relationships with parents outside of the school
to support student learning and well-being. It is important for teachers
to communicate with parents and a weekly or monthly newsletter is a great
way to do this.
