Artifact Ten: Ethnography

A. This rationale is a study of the culture of Bethel Elemetary School located in Sugar Grove, North Carolina. The basis of this study was the effect that media plays on the school and the people that are found in the school.

B. I worked with the other interns that were assigned to Bethel Elementary School during my senior year at Appalachian State University to create this webpage. We used a digital camera to take pictures around the school of different aspects that we felt were media related. We used Adobe Photoshop to adjust the size of the pictures and Netscape Composer to create the webpage itself.

C. I think taking pictures and asking people the right questions is a great way to get the students learning about a certain topic. I think that this would be a great way for students to learn. They would become very interactive and learn how to use different types of technlogy. It also teaches about the culture of a certain place, and it is important to learn about the culture of people other than yourself.

D. This rationale meets Technology Competency V- B because it shows how we used technology in the school to learn about a different culture.

It also meets INTASC Principle Number Five because this activity involves the children working in groups to learn more about a certain topic.
