Artifact Sixteen: Websites For Students Whose Primary Language Is Not        English

A. This artifact is two websites that are available to both teachers and students as a source of communication with people whose primary language is not English. The websites are www.englishlearner.com and www.spanishyahoo.com

B. I searched both of these websites during my junior year at Appalachian State University. I took a Microcomputers course in which we studied various websites that would provide teachers with a resource for students whose primary language is not English.

C. Classrooms are growing to be more and more diverse as our population continues to grow. This enhances the job of the teacher in that he/she has to be able to communicate with all students in order to teach all equally. These two websites provide a great source of information to teachers. They offer English tests, translators, and other various resources. I know that I will continue to use these sites and learn more from them so that I am able to communicate on some level with all of my students.

D. This rationale meets Technology Competency VI- C because this information supports diversity, and it is found by using technology, the WorldWide Web.

It also meets INTASC Principle Number Three because the information found in this artifact provides teachers with information to teach diverse learners.
