Artifact Two: Literature Circle Unit

A. This artifact is a Literature Circle Unit focused on the topic of Ecology. It is designed for a particular grade level- fourth grade. Within one grade level, though, different reading levels exist among students. This unit is derived to teach students the same topic, using appropriate grade level books for each child. There are a multiple amount of books for each unit, and the children are assigned certain jobs while they are reading. This unit gets all children involved in reading and learning.

B. I created this Literature Circle Unit with two of my classmates, during my senior year at Appalachian State University. The unit was a requirement for my Literature class in my Block. We created this unit by using both Microsoft Front Page and the WorldWide Web.

C. I will be able to use this as a unit of lessons in my classroom, which will incorporate a variety of reading levels. The children will be interactive throughout this unit because they are assigned jobs to go along with their reading. This unit meets and follows the curriculum for this grade level.

D. This rationale meets Technology Competency II- A, III- B, and IV- C because it is a unit composed using technology that meets the needs of a variety of different reading levels. The way this unit is set up is also a good source of evaluation for the teachers.

It also meets INTASC Principle Three because the unit meets the needs of diverse learners, in this case, different reading levels found within one classroom.
