Artifact Seven: Video Production

A. This rationale is a video production of the book Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine.

B. I created this video with my Block classmates during my senior year at Appalachian State University. Each student in the class was responsible for individually reading the book, and then we divided the class into five different groups. From there, we created a version of "The View," which is a talk show that is hosted by four women. Each segment of the video was derived from scenes from the book. We used a digital video camera to tape the scenes of the movie, and then we used the Macintosh iMovie program to edit the film that we created.

C. I think that this project can be very interactive for students. I plan on using the idea when I am a teacher. It can be adapted for different grade levels, and it gets the children interested in reading books. Any project that gets the students interactively involved is great for the classroom.

D. This rationale meets Technology Competency III- C because having the students produce their own video on a book that they read involves them learning how to use technology, and it also forces them to get their creative juices flowing.

It also meets INTASC Principle Number Two because this activity involves the children learning through interaction. It supports the development of the children as a whole as well.
