Artifact Eighteen: Accessible Computer Lab

A. This rationale is a list of features that would make a computer lab accessible to any person.

B. In class, we brainstormed a list of features, and I turned this list into a Microsoft document. I created this list using Microsoft Word, and I used numbers to emphasize each important feature. I completed this document my junior year at Appalachian State University.

C. I am planning on implementing the computers into my curriculum when I become a teacher. It is important for me to know that my students will feel comfortable in the computer lab. After all, they are more likely to work to their fullest potential if they are comfortable in their environment. We brainstormed this list in class, and I think that every point enhances the accessibility of the computer lab. The items on the list adapt to any type of student. Some of the aspects of the room include: handicapped accessible features, larger monitors for those who have vision problems, headphones for those that have auditory problems, and other features that provide comfort for the working environment. I plan on using this list to make the computer lab in my school more adaptable to my students.

D. This rationale meets Technology Competency VI- E because it provides equal access to technology by all students.

It also meets INTASC Principle Number Three because this list shows ways in which students may learn or be accessible to materials differently. It is an adaptation so that all students have an equal opportunity to learn about and use technology.
