Artifact Thirteen: Newsletter
to Parents
A. This rationale is a Desktop Publishing newsletter to the parents of my students, which will provide information about my classroom setting. B. During my junior year at Appalachian State University, I took a Microcomputers course. It was in this class that I produced this newsletter. I created this document using Microsoft Publisher. The newsletter includes an imported digital camera photo of myself, along with various pictures found in clip art. C. This newsletter is full of useful information for the parents of my students. The front page of the newsletter includes an article about me, the rules of our classroom, and a list of supplies that the students will need throughout the year. On the second page, I have included some of the curriculum that we will be learning throughout the year, which is important for the parents to know. I have also included a section titled “Upcoming Events,” so that the parents will continuously know what is going on in the classroom. There are also many opportunities for the parents to participate in my classroom, and I have provided them in the newsletter. I aligned the curriculum in the newsletter with that of the North Carolina Department of Instruction. I obtained this information through the website http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/. After opening the web page, I clicked on “Curriculum,” and chose the subject and grade level that I am planning on teaching. The newsletter covers a brief amount of the information that I am planning on teaching in my classroom throughout the year. This brief outline gives the parents an idea of what to expect their children to learn and what to go emphasize with them. D. This rationale meets Technology Competency V- D because I used technology to create the newsletter for the purposeof communicating with the parents of my students, in hopes that it will support student learning. It also meets INTASC Principle Ten
because the newsletter from me is supporting communication between me and
the parents of my students.
