Rationale 12:  PowerPoint Presentation

Competency 11.2  “Use media and technology to present the subject so that it is comprehensible to others”

Competency 11.4 “Use technology-based tools that are specific to the discipline”

Competency 12.6 “Resources available including satellite, cable, wireless, and ITFS (Instructional Television Fixed Service).”

Context:

In a group with three other classmates we made a PowerPoint Presentation for second graders on colors.  We used Microsoft Office and opened the Power Point program to make our presentation.  In second grade students are learning in art about the color wheel and different types of colors.  Our PowerPoint is titled, “Welcome to the Colorful Zoo”, which is full of different colored animals making up primary, secondary and mixed colors.  The PowerPoint includes a title slide, a color wheel, primary colors, secondary colors, mixing colors, bibliography page, copyright notice, and a source page.   The PowerPoint includes music, sound and animated clipart, two hyperlinks, along with a picture of our group taken by a digital camera.  We included a variety of colors and different animals to make the presentation colorful and fun.  We then presented our PowerPoint to the class and explained what we did.

Impact:

By making the PowerPoint Presentation we will be able to create more PowerPoint Presentations for future use in the classroom as a teacher.  Using PowerPoint will make us have an organized way to teach and give us the chance to use different types of technology to present material to our students.  The PowerPoint Presentation is a good way to teach a class to engage the students in learning, and also will teach students about different technology methods.  By completing the PowerPoint Presentation as teachers we will now be able to teach future students how to make their own PowerPoint presentations successfully.

Alignment:

The PowerPoint Presentation meets competency goal 11.2 because we as a group presented our PowerPoint Presentation to the rest of our classmates and explained thoroughly what our presentation was about and went through the presentation slide-by-slide explaining different colors in an easy understandable way.  Also making the PowerPoint Presentation meets competency goal 11.4 because we worked together as a group to present to the class the presentation and we also worked together to gather information from the Internet to complete our presentation and make it interesting to present to the rest of the class.  Meeting these two goals by presenting our PowerPoint to the class our group made it adaptive for all students to use.  We used the speakers mounted on the wall for easier hearing, and noise.  If students in our class have hearing impairments then the speakers on the wall will project the sound out more and perhaps help those hearing impaired students hear the music and sound included in the presentation.  Using the projector that projects to the large screen on the wall allows for those who may have visual trouble see better and also make it easier to see from all views of the room.  The large projector allows for our presentation to be seen large and clear.  We also met this goal because we used the media available in the classroom to present our PowerPoint to the rest of the class.  The PowerPoint Presentation also met competency goal 12.6 because we used wireless technology when presenting our PowerPoint.  As a group we used the touch screen in our presentation because the touch screen is an advantage for the teacher to use because they can control what appears on the screen and the teachers will also be able to move around the room and not be remote to one spot.
