Rationale 8: Copyright Policy Discussion and Handouts

Competency 14.1 “Establish classroom policies and procedures that ensure compliance with copyright law, fair-use guidelines, security, and child protection”

Context

As a class we discussed copyrighting and viewed a power point presentation about copywriting.  The class discussed the presentation on copywriting and found out the rules for using resources that are copyrighted.  Included is a copy of the power point presentation handout.  We also discussed fair use policy, and went over the hand out about copyrighting in an electronic environment and the guidelines to follow when using resources that have a copyright.  Another handout we went over and talked about was correct ways to cite electronic resources in APA and MLA style.

Impact

The handouts we received will help me as a teacher in teaching my students about copyrighting laws and make sure my students will not break the laws of copyrighting.  Also the handouts will help me as a teacher to teach what I know about citing electronic resources in two different styles.  I also learned from the power point presentation what I can and cannot use from the Internet as a teacher.

Alignment

The three handouts on copywriting meets competency goal 14.1 because I saw a power point presentation and as a class we discussed copyright laws and I now understand what violates copyright laws.
