Rationale 2:  Desktop Publishing Newsletter to Parents

Competency 12.3 “Use computer and other technologies effectively and appropriately to communicate information in a variety of formats on students learning to colleagues, parents and others”

Context

As a partner with one of my classmates we came up wothi a newletter to send to parents introducing ourselves as team teacher for the coming year.  We used the program Microsoft Publisher to design our newsletter.  The newsletter was two pages long and included clip art, borers and pictures of us.  WE used a digital camera to insert the pictures of ourselves onto our newsletter.  Included in the newsletter we stated our expected goals, materials needed for the class, rules, and activities planned for the year.

Impact

Making the newsletter was a great opportunity for me to learn how to use a new tool such as Microsoft Publishing.  The newsletter gives teachers a chance to introduce themselves and get to know their parents and students.  AS a future teacher the newsletter will allow me to communicate better with parents and students.

Alignment

The newsletter meets competency goal 12.3 because I used the desktop publishing program to communicate with parents and students.  I now know how to create a newsletter to keep in touch with parents at all times.

This artifact meets ISTASC 10 also because it is a way for the teacher to build relationships with parents and students.  The newsletter gives information about your self and the events that will take place for the year.  This letter is a good way for the parents to see the different kinds of things their child will be participating in.  The teacher can use the newsletter to send out before the students begin the school year and will give the parents a head start on how to help their children prepare for the year.  The newsletter will build communication to the parents and students from their teacher.
