An Accessible Computer Lab
Competency 12.4 “Physical settings that support active student involvement, inquiry, and collaboration” Context As a class we brainstormed ideas to come up with an accessible computer lab for all students. Accessible means that all students can equally access the use of equipment. As a class we came up with a master list of objects to be used in the computer lab for all students to have access. I typed the master list of objects to be used in the classroom using Microsoft word. Impact This list of accessible objects in the computer lab will be useful to me as a teacher because I may have students with physical disabilities or hearing and speech impairment. As a teacher I want all students to have equal access to the computer lab. Alignment This list of accessible objects meets the competency goal 12.4 because the list gives great ways to make computer labs accessible to all students and allows students to be involved in computer labs. I now know how to create an equally accessible computer lab for all students. This artifact meets INTASC 5 also because teachers need to have a manageable way to set up times for the students to use the technology available to them. Students enjoy going to the computer lab and working with the technology, but often there are not enough computers to go around for each child. An accessible computer lab sign up helps offer each child time to be actively involved in learning, and gives the students self-motivation as they take turns using the technology. Making the accessible computer allows for the students to have a positive social interaction with each other because all students will have a chance to be involved with the technology.
